Samsung OMNIA DXHH1 ROM ready for download!

Dear All Samsung OMNIA i900 users,

Those who are looking a the new DXHH1 ROM for the Samsung OMNIA i900, you can get the file directly from HERE.

But I strongly recommend that you read all the user discussion in the thread HERE.

Warning: Since this ROM is reconstructed from my OMNIA and not officially made available on the web by Samsung, so please use and do it at your own risk.

Samsung Omnia i900 New Latest ROM (i900DXHH1) or H1

I bought my Samsung OMNIA when it was pre-released during the recent PC Fair (1-3 Aug 2008) in KL Convention Centre. I paid RM200 as deposit and a week later I got the unit which total price Rm2799 (8GB version).

The unit that I get had a ROM version that have haptic feedback when using its Samsung keypad/keyboard. However, I immediately upgrade the phone to G4 ROM which was available for download at samsung official download site for Omnia i900 HERE.

After successfully upgrade to G4 ROM, I realized that the new ROM although much better in term of the additional features but eliminate the significant haptic feedback function which is OMNIA’s most significant arsenal when comparing with other WinMos.

It really disappointed  me a lot. I went back to the store and I found out that all the newly sold Omnia already preloaded with the G4 ROM.

Then I immediately went to Samsung Customer Service Centre in Low Yatt but the service is terrible! The lady in the front counter not only rude but know very little about ROM, firmware, etc especially WinMo models.

After some searchs from internet especially from www.ppcsg.com which so far I believe the most extensive forum that covers Samsung OMNIA, I discover that a new ROM (H1) was alrealy released but not yet available for download. It said the new ROM have more features AND come with the haptic feedback if using Samsung keypad/keyboard. Wow!

Then I went to another Samsung Service Centre in Subang Jaya (the HQ for FMG, the Samsung Mobile distributor for Malaysia). There I can see some light this time…

The lady said the firmware does exist (First good sign) but then she said even with the new ROM, it still does not have the haptic feedback. What?!

Then, I said, oklah, just flashed to the new ROM anyway….

After 1 hour, she brought my newly flashed Omnia that she surprisingly told me that “now your OMNIA does have the haptic feedback.” She felt slight shameful but nevermind at least I have what I wanted from Omnia.

So, with the new ROM, your Samsung OMNIA i900 should have the following features:

1. Haptic feedback when using Samsung keypad/keyboard.
2. Finger scrolling works in native WinMo Programs and Settings as well as in File Explorer.
3. Better integration for the clock, alarm, world clock.
4. More animation choices for the Screen rotation.
5. Floating button to assist finger scrolling in Main Menu/Programs
6. Additional Page in Main Menu
7. DLNA Server application

I recently ordered a new Asus EEE PC 1000H to replace my older UMPC, Kohjinsha SH series. I said “ordered” since the availability of the new “doll” from Asus is extremely limited and faces very high demand. My supplier said, if they receive the order in the morning, all will be gone by the evening! Hot chick ha…

Since, I still do not have the computer in my hand to give a proper review, I extracted a nice and fair review from other source. You can read the review from HERE. For the lazy readers, the followings are the key conclusion about the computer:

The pros:

1. The battery life is exceptional with maximum 7 hours. Normal laptop computer usually can last only 3 hours maximum.
2. The new Intel Atom maximize the potential of this small chick since it would means smoother internet browsing, video rendering and better overall system performance.
3. The 80GB HDD eliminates the most annoying side of the previous EEE PC models where 4GB is too small for these days digital works.
4. The owner of this EEE PC will also get a network storage of 20GB from Asus. This is really the thing that make it really favorable!
5. The WIFI support the new N which means you can link it to your new 802.11n wireless router and really make use of the N factor.
6. Dolby Sound means better sound performance for your MP3 and movies watching.
7. the 10″ screen size will make it more appealing for web browsing with more readable font size.
8. The option to include Windows XP NOT Windows Vista is really a good decision since in my older Kohjinsha which features Celeron 800 Mhz but the OS is Vista. The performance is terrible and I have no choice but to downgrade it to WIndows XP.
9. The overall size really make your backpack very light and also make your daily commute to office or outstation work less stressful.

The cons:

As with most UMPC, this computer does not have a built-in optical drive.

My price for you: RM2400.00 Pretty cheap ha

We concluded our review of the Eee PC 901 by saying “with the promise of the 10-inch Eee PC 1000 and Eee PC 1000H just around the corner, some may want to play the waiting game.” And we were right. Those looking for a larger mini-notebook with a good sized screen and a spacious keyboard will find nearly everything they are looking for. However, the similarly configured MSI Wind NB offers comparable performance and endurance for $150 less, although some will prefer the 1000H’s slick aesthetics. We like the Eee PC 1000H, but we’ll like it a lot more if the final pricing for the system winds up being less.

Mapsource 6.14.01 beta can not browse Malsingmaps GM-MySin

Last night, I struggled a lot to view Malsingmaps GM-MySin v2.28 map on my latest Mapsource installation using 6.14.01 beta. I found out that after installing the malsingmaps, the Mapsource could not ran at all giving error message that there is something wrong with the GM-MySin v2.28 installation.

Tonight, after some search in malsingmaps forum, i discover the bug! It is some error in the registry that we need to change.

You need to change the following registry key:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Garmin\Mapsource\Families\GM-MySin\3c

to become

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Garmin\Mapsource\Families\GM-MySin\60

The original values are hexadecimals (3c). Replace them with their decimal equilvalent (60).

This 60 is only for Peninsular maps, for Borneo use 59.

Why 60, This is the reason given by one of the forumer:

New beta releases from Garmin do not recognise the Product Code Malsingmaps is using. If future stable releases follow the same rule, we just need to change the Product Code.

Subkey (looks like subfolder) = PID, you can gmaptool or FIDfinder.exe or others software to see the PID value for your *.img file in decimal, each img file has FID, PID, RID, RgnID, VenID

or use Hex2Dec(“3B”) = 59 — function in in Excell (should enable Analysis Toolpack add-in in order to enable Hex2Dec function)

In Excell spreadsheet — Click -> Tools -> Add-ins -> check Analysis Toolpack -> OK

example for GM-MySin change from Hex 3C –> Dec 60

Or, you can just use the calculator from Windows. Choose “View” and “Scientific”.
Click on the radio button “Hex”, type the hex value, eg. “3C” and then click on the radio button “Dec”. You will get the decimal value of “60″ as in the picture.
